Ellen is a Manchester based freelance photographer who approached me to create a logo and a website for her work. This was a really fun project as her style of photography is very dramatic and explorative, I had to find a way to represent this without overpowering her own work. Initially we were set on a completely black and white colour palette to match her style of photography however, I tested the waters by adding a splash of orange. This turned out to be a terrific way to give the brand more personality and boldness.
Her ‘thing’ is creating square prints so I brought that into the logo design and used elements of photographic iconography to embellish the text lockup, such as the focus frame/cross. This worked well to subtly link the logo to her craft and left room for a strong visual language to exist - consisting of squares, crosses and little bit of orange. She also threw in some free headshots for me, check out her work !
